dealt with in the same manner but if allowed by the board they shall

be carried out over the whole railway at the cost of the two

Governments in mileage proportion. Provided that the Chinese

Government shall not under this clause be required to do anything

which might prejudice its bondholders or their security under the

loan agreement and during the continuance of that agreement the

consent of the Corporation shall be required to any expenditure

being thrown upon the Chinese Government.

13.-The ordinary maintenance of the line shall be the work of

the Board and be defrayed out of current receipts. Any additional

capital expenditure required for either section (but subject to the

preceding clause) shall be provided by the Government owning such

section. The Board shall have power to make use of any quarries

for stone or ballast which may lie alongside of or near the railway

for the purpose of such maintenance.
